Beginning Stained Glass
Classes run 6 weeks, and are 2 ½ hours each class
Students begin learning the techniques of cutting on 'window pane' glass. The first project is cut,
foiled and soldered using window pane glass, both for ease of cutting and to keep the cost down.
Students will advance to a stained glass project once they are comfortable. Usually, three or more
projects can be completed during the course, depending on their complexity.
The differences between glasscutters, breakers, soldering irons, and grinders will be discussed and
proper cutting techniques for each type of cutter will be demonstrated. Foil, patinas and pattern altering
will also be covered.
Students will be able to make suncatchers, window hangings or garden stakes on their own by the end
of class. And students are always welcome to stop by for help when a score just won't cooperate.
Mosaic Classes
In the first class, everyone goes home with a completed picture frame. In the
second class, we attach the backing to the frame and then any project you'd like to work on is your
choice.
Some suggestions are:
-
table tops
-
flower pots
-
wall hangings
-
birdbaths
-
bathroom backsplashes
-
counter
tops
Both the direct and indirect method will be explained, so the student may choose whichever they prefer.
Class size is limited so individual attention is given to each student.
JefDen Designs carries pre-cut glass kits the complete line of Mosaic Mercantile ¾” and
3/8” tiles. Along with various other manufactures of tiles and a selection
of Smalti, and cut stone.
There are over 400 different colors of sheet glass to choose from and, you may choose random
pieces of glass from the scrap buckets, scrap is sold by weight, a great savings when you only need a small piece.
Always wear old clothes and, on the first class, you will need either safety glasses or your own glasses. Closed toe shoes and long pants are the best protection when glass is flying.
Sounds easy, right? Don't believe me? Take a look at our students'
work.
We also offer Workshops on Fusing, Wire wrap, Lead Came Lampshades, Beading and more...........
