Glass has been my passion for the last 20 years. I have taken numerous classes from the best to master scoring, grinding, foiling, lead work, soldering, adhering, grouting, slumping and fusing. But even knowing all that, I wanted more……..

It wasn’t enough to make a wall hanging, or a vase. At Art & Craft shows my work was well received though at times it wasn’t quite the right color for their garden, living room, or kitchen. Some never thought of a mosaic countertop, tub surround, or even a focal point in an entryway or landing.

I could speak from own experience, and I knew where to get answers, but I didn’t have the classes behind me. The only choice was back to school. In 2005 I began classes in Interior Design; I also joined the NKBA, (National Kitchen & Bath Association). Intensives in form, fit and function took on whole new meaning. Perspectives, textures, dazzle, color, were not just things to please the eye, they had rules, and areas that could be slightly bent and areas never to bend.

Lighting, which some of us never notice, unless there is not enough or it is in our eyes, is a specialty in itself.  How many lights? How high off of the ground, from the floor, from the seat in the couch? Where should task lighting be, its height, how many? Outdoor lighting, garden lighting, security lighting, the list goes on.

Then our seniors need furniture slightly different too. Rugs, walkways, and of course lighting. Bathroom design for a wheelchair needs the room to turn around, a shower that the person can use alone, if able, and a mirror at the right height.

School was essential. I am equipped now to work with clients, backed by the confidence, that my work is not only esthetically pleasing but also functionally correct.

All this I’ve woven in with my love of glass, whether it is tiles or sheets of glass, they create the scene.  They tell the story, with dimension, sparkle, and reflection.
